Calliope Women's Chorus celebrates the voices, power, strength and diversity of women. We cherish our roots in the lesbian community, and welcome all women to join with us in singing with excellence and pride. Our songs are sent forth as a source of healing and joy, to soothe hearts and stir spirits. We offer our music in support of change towards freedom, justice and equality.

...FALL CONCERT !!
"FINDING THE STRENGTH WITHIN"

A concert acknowledging the victims of violence due to war, terrorism, and domestic abuse while celebrating the hope, strength and courage of women striving for peace.

Saturday, Nov. 23 at 8 pm
Sunday, Nov. 24 at 3 pm
Foss Center at Augsburg College.

The program includes a variety of musical styles with music as sung by Pat Humphries, Holly Near, Pete and Lou Berryman, Ann Reed, Wyrd Sisters, and Martina McBride along with classical settings of texts by May Sarton and Emily Dickinson. The chorus will perform "Take Heart," a moving tribute to global women by Ysaye Barnwell, one of the founding members of Sweet Honey in the Rock.

Music by several local composers and arrangers will be heard: Libby Larsen's "If I Can Stop One Heart from Breaking"; Ann Reed's "Walk," an empowering narrative about domestic violence; a war protest, "1000 Grandmothers," arranged by J. David Moore; and two pieces arranged by Dorothy Williams, "Independence Day" and "Swimming to the Other Side." Of special interest is Janika Vandervelde's "Who Cries for the Mothers?" from her larger multimedia performance event, Why Don't My Eyes Refuse to See?, which explores the social costs of war and celebrates the tenacity of the human spirit. Calliope Women's Chorus will join with other local artists and social activists in performances of the entire work on March 8 and 9.

Accompanist Sarah Lockwood is joined by professional instrumentalists for some numbers. Calliope's small ensemble, Harmonia, will also perform on the concert.

Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door, $5 for children ages 14 and under.
You may order by mailing a check to Calliope Women's Chorus, PO Box 80077, Minneapolis, MN 55408; or reserve by phone: (612) 285-5835.
