Kristen Frank, Accompanist
Calliope Womens Chorus is thrilled to announce the hiring of a new accompanist for their 2007-2008 season! Kristen Frank was selected from several candidates as much for her enthusiasm and positive attidtude as for her talent. She impressed Director Maren Amdal with her playing and sight-reating skill, and we know she'll be able to provide quality musical support to the chorus throughout the coming year.
By way of introducing herself to the chorus and the public, she extends the following greeting:
"Hello! My name is Kristen Frank and I am a west-central Minnesota native who spent the first 18 years of my life in the Renville County area. Following high school graduation, I sought new adventure and climate in Tallahassee, Florida, where I attended Florida State University, initially as a Music Therapy major. After college graduation in December of 2003, and a B.S. in Fashion Merchandising, I moved to south Florida where I worked in retail management until August of 2006. Realizing family was much more important than the beach and beautiful weather, I made the long trek back to Minnesota and chose to plant my seeds in south Minneapolis. I currently work for a large organization downtown, but have been seeking an extracurricular activity to express my love for music. When I randomly came across a listing seeking an accompanist for the Calliope Women's Chorus, I immediately felt that it would be a great way for me to apply my musical ability, as well as contribute to the community and meet new and diverse individuals.
As for my musical background, I began taking piano lessons, with an emphasis in classical training, at the age of 5 and continued uninterruptedly through my freshmen year of college. During high school, I accompanied both my school and church choirs and partook in Minnesota's Junior Festival and MMTA competitions. Since then, I have played piano for pleasure, as well as for a friend’s wedding. Some of my favorite genres include classical, new age, jazz, rag-time and sacred. I am truly looking forward to becoming part of Calliope and all that is has to offer!"
